DIY QUOTES

NEW SIGNAGE!

Recently I have made a couple few new witty signs for my apartment and I’m continuing to do so. These signs are so easy to create and are a lot cheaper then purchasing them from a home and décor store.
The supplies you will need to create these lovely signs are the following:
  • Acrylic paint
  • Paintbrushes
  • Any piece of wood
  • Sponge sander
  • Computer
  • Printer
  • Paper
  • Carbon Paper (Transfer Paper)
  • Varnish
  • Hanging hooks

You can purchase these supplies at Michael’s Craft Store, Staples, Home Hardware, & a Lumberyard.

Step 1: First choose a quote that you would like to paint and the piece of wood you want to paint the quote onto. Take your sponge sander and sand down all the edges of the wood to create a smooth surface to paint on.

Step 2: Once all the surfaces are smooth you can now choose your background color and do 2 to 3 coats of paint.

Step 3: Once the background color is dry, print out your quote. I usually use a font from Microsoft Word. Once you have the font printed and lined up on your board take your transfer paper and place it underneath your quote. Now take a pencil and trace out the quote, the carbon paper will allow the quote to transfer onto the piece of wood.

Step 4: Once the quote is transferred onto the board you can now paint the quote. Just use a skinny paintbrush and paint within the lines. It’s really easy, just like coloring! Do 2 to 3 coats of the quote.

Step 5: Once the quote is completely finished and dried, take a large brush and some varnish and paint the entire board and all edges. Do 2 coats of varnish. The varnish seals the paint into the board and gives the sign a shiny look.

Step 6: Once the varnish is completely dried your sign is completed! You can now nail in some hanging hooks to the back of your sign and hang your lovely quote.

BONUS: Use Q-tips and water to fix any mistakes when painting within the lines of the quote.

 Enjoy Guys!

DIY Valentines Day Banner

Easy Valentines Day Banner

I decided to decorate my condo for Valentines Day. I didn’t want it to look too cheesy, so I just made a simple heart banner. I cut out so many hearts that I was able to place heart banners in a few places. The banner looks pretty strung across the fireplace mantel, bed headboard, windows or walkways.

The items you will need to create this cute heart banner are:
  • Red and pink construction paper
  • Brown twinge (string)
  • Red Sparkles
  • Scissors
  • Glue
These items can be purchased at Michael’s or any craft store.

Step 1: Cut out as many red and pink hearts out of the construction paper. You can than use the glue and sparkles and decorate the hearts as you wish. I put sparkles on every other red heart, and around the edges.

Step 2: Once all your hearts are cut out and glittered, use the scissors and string to poke holes through each heart. Then string the twinge through each hole and your valentine’s heart banner will be completed. You can now place it anywhere you’d like.

Hope this was an easy and fun Valentines Day project!

SIGNS/PAINTED QUOTES

SIGNS/PAINTED QUOTES

Okay, so these are the crafts that I have been doing over the Christmas holidays. Majority of these crafts are signs, which I made for Christmas presents and for holiday decorating. All these signs consist of the same steps just different fonts and paint colors.

Things you’ll need:
  • Board/piece of wood
  • Paint/woodstain
  • Paintbrush
  • Sander
  • Varnish
  • Hanging hooks

Step 1: Find a piece of wood that you would like to paint a quote onto. Sand the sign down making it look and feel smooth.

Step 2: Now paint or stain the background of your sign. Choose a color or stain that will best fit the theme of your sign.

Step 3: Once the background paint has completely dried, it’s quote time. How to paint on the quote is to first print the quote out. I use Microsoft word to design quotes at the exact font and size that I would like the quote to be on my sign. Once the font is printed out, tape the quote where you want it to be on my sign. Then use tracing paper that can be bought at any craft store, and put the tracing paper under the quote and use a pencil to trace the quote on. The tracing paper allows the quote to transfer onto the sign! Once the quote is on, use a thin paintbrush and which ever paint color and start painting on the quote. Usually do three coats of paint until the quote looks bold.

Step 4: Once your sign is completely finished, paint or spray varnish your sign. The varnish makes sure that the paint is completely sealed onto the board.

Step 5: Lastly, use a hammer and some nails and hooks to hammer the hooks onto the back of your sign so that the sign can be hung.

Thanks guys, hope you’re able and that you enjoy making your own signs!

I'm BACK

Hello Everyone!

I’m finally back! I’m so sorry that I haven’t been posting many of my blogs over the past month and a half? Due to the crazy Christmas holidays, my busy exam schedule, and my big move to Vancouver I have had no time to post! However, I’m back now to stay! I have posted on twitter some of the crafts that I have been doing over the holidays, so now I will repost all the crafts that I have done and include the tutorials with them. Sorry about the no craft gap guys, but stay tuned for more consistent crafts!

DIY Pine Trees in Crown Jars

DIY Pine Trees in Crown Jars

Hello everyone on this very snowy, Saturday, morning!
Today, I was totally inspired by our recent snowfall that I decided to get crafty and make a snowy, Christmassy, craft! Today’s craft was easy to create and looks so pretty. These DIY Pine Trees in Crown Jars look great on the windowsill, fire mantel, or used as holiday centerpieces.

Items you’ll need to build this craft:
  • Vintage Crown Canning Jars/Mason Jars
  • Epsom Salt
  • Small Village Décor Trees

Step 1: Find a Crown jar, Crown jars can be purchased at flea markets or garage sales. I found mine in my grandma’s basement. I like using the Crown jars for this craft because I like the blue tint that the jar has, it gives the craft a snowy look. However, Mason jars will also work. I then used bleach and hot water and washed each jar out.

Step 2: After each jar was clean and dried, I add in the Epsom salt. Put about 2 scoops of salt into each jar, making sure that the bottom of the jar is covered. Then place your mini trees into each jar. These mini pine trees can be purchased at the dollar store or Canadian Tire. Now Sprinkle a few more scoops of salt into the jar to make the trees look like they’re covered in snow. The salt also packs down each trees base so that the trees don’t move. Once your jars are looking nice and snowy its time to put the lid, on and place the jars wherever you’d like!

Hope you guys enjoyed the DIY Pine Trees in Crown Jars craft!
